Helping Coloradans in the communities they call home.

Our SNAP Outreach programs work to improve our state participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Hunger Free Colorado staff visit multiple community locations to provide in-person assistance in the Denver Metro area. Additionally, we provide free training, tools, and support to community partners Statewide through our SNAP PEAS program.

SNAP PEAS (Partners Engaging in Application Services) – Statewide

Who are SNAP Partners Engaging in Application Services (The PEAS)
SNAP PEAS are partner organizations working directly with members of their community to help them apply for SNAP and connect with other food resources for a healthier, happier Colorado. Member organizations in the SNAP PEAS program are deeply embedded in their communities and are able to provide the most relevant and responsive support for the families they serve. By having close relationships with clients, SNAP PEAS are uniquely able to understand and help overcome the barriers to services that so many families experiencing hardship face; barriers such as stigma, quality application completion, understanding program rules and availability, and the chronic stress of adversity.

Our SNAP Partners include local WIC agencies, food pantries and food banks, Family Resource Centers, county Departments of Human Services, medical providers, soup kitchens, colleges and universities, legal aid offices, community farms & food organizations, and immigrant and unique culture group support agencies.

SNAP PEAS Communities of Practice
SNAP PEAS organizations are unique; serving diverse communities with practices that best support them. The SNAP PEAS team supports quarterly meetings of “Communities of Practice” to carve out time especially for these organizations to exchange best practices around messaging, outreach delivery, data use, and anything of interest to the group. When it makes sense, we bring in other movers and shakers in the sphere who are able to contribute innovative approaches to their community’s unique challenges. We currently have Communities of Practice within the SNAP College Connect, WIC to SNAP, and Family Resource Center (convened by the Family Resource Center Association) communities.
